Driving

Many people with Parkinson's Disease who drive are able to continue to do so. It is important to let the DVLA and your motor insurance company know about any major change in your health. This would certainly include receiving a diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease.

Factors that might affect driving ability include: alertness, reaction times, ability to multi-task, thinking, decision-making and eyesight.

Your doctor may refer you to an occupational therapist for further assessment.

Driving can also be assessed at Derby "DrivAbility" Regional Driving Centre at Kingsway Hospital, Derby, DE22 3LZ. If you are not sure about your driving abilities you can contact Derby DrivAbility on 01332 371929. Derby DrivAbility may charge a fee for their assessments.
