Welcome to the Derby Parkinson's Disease website. The site is for people with Parkinson's and their carers, and for health professionals.

Derby Parkinson's Symposium 2024. The 8th annual Parkinson's Symposium for people with Parkinson's and their carers will take place at Royal Derby Hospital on 11th May 2024. Please save the date and check back for further details. Registration details to follow.

Parkinson Foundation Centre of Excellence. The Parkinson's Foundation has named Derby Parkinson's Service a centre of excellence for Parkinson's, one of only two such centres in the UK. At the end of 2023, we were delighted to receive a $60,000 award from the Parkinson's Foundation to further develop local Parkinson's services. This is the third consecutive year the Derby Parkinson's service has received this award. The award is used to provide additional physiotherapy hours, cognitive stimulation therapy for local people with Parkinson's and mild cognitive impairment or early dementia, and group Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for people with Parkinson's. We gratefully acknowledge the generous support of the Parkinson's Foundation.

Parkinson's Disease: A Multidisciplinary Guide to Management. This new book for professionals was published by Elsevier in December 2021. It was edited by Fiona Lindop and Rob Skelly form the Derby Parkinson's Team. Many members of the team contributed to various chapters in the book.

Parkinson's UK Service Development Grant. The Derby Parkinson's Team was delighted to be awarded a £22,000 service development grant to integrate physical and mental health services for peole with Parkinson's. The project started in March 2019. The project revealed unmet mental health care needs in people with Parkinson's . This model of closer working was well-rated by staff and service-users alike. The project also resulted in the development of a clozapine service for psychosis in Parkinson's. We gratefully acknowledge the generous support of Parkinson's UK.

Elaine Bowler. The Parkinsons Team pays warm tribute to Elaine Bowler who died towards the end of 2023. Elaine was a much loved staff nurse in the clinic and will be missed by patients and staff alike.

Fiona Lindop MBE. Fiona Lindop, Specialist Parkinsons Physiotherapist was awarded an MBE the the New Years Honours List 2024. Fiona is the longest serving member of the team and has worked hard to improve care for people with Parkinsons both locally and nationally. Well done, Fiona!

All Party Parliamentary Group for Parkinson's Enquiry Members of the Derby Parkinson's were pleased to give evidence in person to the APPG enquiry into anxiety and depression in people with Parkinson's. The resulting report can be accessed here: Mental Health Matters Too.

Parkinson's Excellence Network Awards 2017. The Derby Parkinson's Team was highly commended in the first Parkinson's Excellence Network Awards held in March 2017.

PDNSA Parkinson's Team of the Year Award 2015. The Derby Teaching Hospitals Parkinson's Team was honoured to receive the Parkinson's Disease Nurse Specialist Association Parkinson's Team of the Year Award 2015. The award was collected by Lisa Brown.

"Decade of difference award 2013." Dr Rob Skelly was delighted to receive a decade of difference award from the Parkinson's Academy in 2013. The award was for contributions to developing Parkinson's services.

Derby Hospitals Team of the Year 2011. The Parkinson's Team won the Derby Hospitals Team of the year award. The winning team was chosen by the chairman of the Trust Board and was commended for its committment to high quality clinical care
